Did You Know?

Did You Know…that ginger makes a fun, unique, and flavorful addition to a morning bowl of oats?

It’s true.  I was inspired by the well-known and awesome Broccoli Hut for this combo. 😀

  • 1/4 c. oatbran
  • 1/4 c. wheatbran
  • 1 c. milk + 1/2 c. water
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 c. frozen blueberries, dethawed
  • dash of ginger, cinnamon and nutmeg
  • toppings: 2 T. walnuts + 2 T. Galaxy Granola

Did You Know…this is my favorite snack—hands down?

Yes, you probably did know that since it’s always being eaten on this blog. 😉

  • 6-oz. plain yogurt
  • 1/2 banana
  • 2 T. Natures Path Pumpkin Flax Granola

Did You Know…that white bean dip is even simpler to make then hummus?

It makes a fun, tasty twist on the traditional hummus.  And if you love vinegar and rosemary, you’ll love this recipe. 😀  It makes the perfect topper for a sweet ‘tater.

On the side of my lunch, I had a humungous salad topped with avocado.  Because—I’m sure you know—a little bit of healthy fat is important in absorbing the nutrients as well as providing satiation. 😀

Y-U-M.

Did You Know…fruit is the naturally sweet way to end a meal?

Oranges—high in vitamin C—are helpful to your body absorbing vegetable sources of iron (known as nonheme iron.)

Did You Know…for the best, most frothy latte, it’s best to use low-fat or skim milk?

Aside from the obvious choice for health, low fat milk also gives you the most froth on top of that latte or cappucino.  All the more reason to choose lowfat and skim. 😉

Did You Know…Almond and Coconut Kind bars are my new favorite snack (aside from my morning “favorite snack”…I obviously have a lot of favorites 😉 )

Chewy Coconut.  Crunchy Almonds.  So.  Very.  Yummy.

This kept me full for my entire, 2-1/2 hr. exam for Nutrition Problems in the US.  I crunched on the apple while driving home. 😀

Did You Know…vegetarian soups can be an affordable way to sneak in some veggies?

Tonight we made White Bean and Black Olive Soup from the Moosewood Cookbook.  It’s chock full of zucchini, carrots, celery, white beans, black olives and more.  It’s super flavorful and heartwarming. 😀

+ some kashis on the side for crunch, crunch, crunch!

Did You Know…it’s been months since I last had dark chocolate in the house?

This.  Is.  Too.  Long. 😉

Scharffen Berger makes one of my favorite 82% dark chocolate bars, so I made a monetary indulgement as a post-exam celebration.

I broke off a small square of deliciousness and savored every bite.  I love dark chocolate for its fruity, intense flavor. 😀

Did You Know…I only have one exam left before being officially done college?  I’m psyched!

Off to catch 27 Dresses…such a cute movie!

Question: What is your favorite spice (or topping/filling) to add to your oats?  Anything unusual that you’ve ever tried?  Ginger is probably as “unusual” a spice that I’ve ever tried.  My favorite topping will always be granola.  I just can’t eat a bowl without it any more! 😀

  1. Non-heme iron + vitamin C! lol I have a metabolic exam tomorrow 🙂

This morning I had avocado in my oats and it was sooooo good!

  2. I love ginger in my oats! I am a cinnamon girl regularly though! I used chai tea in it recently and LOVED it! Veggie soup is inexpensive and delicious! I did know about the skim milk froth, which always makes me wonder why coffee shops don’t use it instead of the full fat stuff. I never get that! Good luck on the last of school! I hope you have a great weekedn!

  3. I never thought to add Ginger to my oats, but it sounds like a great idea! Cinnamon is always a safe bet, but I’ll add ground cloves and a hint of vanilla extracts… gives it a kick 🙂

  4. So glad you like the ginger-oats combo! I like it too. It may sound weird, but it makes a good combination with green grapes thrown in the oats too:)
Love the idea of white bean dip on a sweet potato!
