If I’ve learned one thing about running in the rain, it is this: you will reach a point where you can’t possibly get any wetter.
Somehow that’s a consolation for me, and I absolutely love reaching the poing where I quite literally become one with the run. 😉 That point where avoiding puddles becomes meaningless. The point where the rate of the rain determines my pace.
A hard downpour makes my legs turn over quicker. Sprinting, almost.
A slow, methodical rhythm of a drizzle is my favorite. My pace becomes slow and steady, as I take in the pleasures of a rainy day. One drop at a time.
Running through the rain is one of life’s simple pleasures. I highly recommend it.
And—remember—you will reach that point where you can’t possibly get any wetter. 😉
With the temperatures dropping, dropping, dropping, hot oats are once again becoming my breakfast of choice.
I’ve always enjoyed pureed pumpkin in my oats. I’ve always enjoyed cottage cheese in my oats. I don’t know why I’ve never thought to combine the two.
But they marry perfectly together, they really do.
I stirred in the cottage cheese at the very end of the cooking time, to avoid “melting” the cheese. Been there, done that. Nobody likes a stretchy cottage cheese.
This produces a very voluminous bowl of oats, and it’s super filling to boot. Between the protein from the cottage cheese ‘n’ milk and the fiber from the oatbran and pumpkin, you’ll be going, goin, going all morning long. 😀
Spiced Pumpkin and Cottage Cheese Oat Bran
1 c. milk + 3/4 c. water
1 tsp cinnamon + a dash of nutmeg
1/2 banana, sliced
1/2 c. pureed pumpkin
1/4 c. oatbran
1/4 c. 1% cottage cheese, nuked for 10 seconds to take the chill off
toppings: Natures Path Pumpkin Flax Granola with almond butter
Bring milk, water, spices, banana and pumpkin to a boil in a small saucepan. Add oatbran, lower heat, and cook until thickened (about 3-5 minutes), stirring after every minute or so.
Add cottage cheese, turn heat off, and pour into bowl. Top as desired.
Question: How do you most enjoy a rainy day?
Writing cottage cheese on my grocery list! I bet acorn squash would work well for this recipe too.
Your Pictures are b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l!
Mmm cottage cheese… Most of my family and friends think that it’s disgusting, but the salty deliciousness gets me every time 😉
Your oats are such a beautiful hue of orange 😉
I definitely follow the “well, I can’t get wetter” thought process when it comes to rain! that’s what I had to do this morning 😛 I love baking on rainy days!
You put that “can’t get any wetter” concept into words perfectly! I LOVE soaking wet runs in the rain. Unfortunately, it rarely rains here. And when it does, it’s only for about 10 – 15 minutes, so I can almost never get soaked. 🙂 I’m jealous of that rain dripping off of your face in that picture!
Your oat bran is such a lovely hue of orange! Gorgeous!
I just came across your blog and love it! You take excellent pictures and love the upbeat attitude.
Although I do have to say I prefer spending a rainy day with a book on the couch. LOL
I ran in the pouring rain once. Quite by accident. It started raining buckets halfway through my run.
… then it started to hail. HAIL. Not cool.
Hahaha…hail is not fun!! Although I’m pretty sure that gives you the instant title of being a hard core runner.
okay you still look PRETTY after being SOAKED after a run!!! gahh!
love hot oats on a chily day too!
Haha…thanks, girl! 😀
You are SOAKED in that pic. 🙂 I haven’t run in the rain for a long time… Will have to try it again next summer. 🙂
I love running in the rain and it’s also nice to go for a run just as it starts to snow (I Know I am weird). There is just such a nice peace to the world as you run during those times.
Those look sooo good! I gotta try it! I’ve just been putting protein powder in my oats recently to up the protein content 🙂
I don’t mind running in the rain except that I usually have my ipod with me and I worry about it getting ruined.
Those oats look and sound absolutely mouth-watering! I love baking on rainy days. It’s always nice to enjoy a fresh-baked treat after getting soaked in the rain 🙂
What an adorable pic of you and gorgeous looking bowl of oats! Yum!
I typically enjoy a rainy saturday shopping, baking, or cleaning. This morning I got a trim and now we are about to look at new houses to rent for the time being. I love a rainy day but today I feel antsy! That run looks fun! I used to enjoy playing soccer in the rain!
Wow, kudos for braving a run in the rain! I don’t mind it during the summer when the rains are warm, but I find it way too chilly to run in the rain in the fall!
I enjoy spending rainy days indoors curled up with a book or movie. 😀
MMM I love mixing pumpkin and cottage cheese into my oats – it’s almost like pumpkin cheesecake 🙂 I love drinking hot coffee on rainy days.
