luxurious mornings

Most mornings include a hot cup of tea.

I’ll pull on a fuzzy, warm pair of wool socks, make a hot bowl of oatmeal, and check my to-do’s for the day.

Most mornings.

And then there are those mornings when I just feel like being luxurious.  Luxurious beyond the basic tea and oats.

I buy a loaf of whole wheat oatmeal bread from Whole Foods.  Chosen because the crust gave in and *crunched* when I squeezed it.  Perfect.  I swirl a pat of butter on two thick, toasted slices.

I make an omelet that has more veggies than your typical side salad.  Handfuls of spinach.  Diced bell peppers.  Onions, mushrooms, tomatoes.

And then, I eat in bed.  Luxurious.

The value of a special breakfast should never be overlooked.

The enjoyment of eating breakfast in bed should be enjoyed at least a few times a month.

If you’re feeling a little fried from a busy holiday week, and/or if you’re walking away from the weekend without enough catch-up time (why does this always seem to happen?), I highly recommend planning a special breakfast for the week.  You’ll love it. 😀

Question: Do you ever eat breakfast in bed?

  1. I love my hot tea in the morning. Right now, I’m loving one called ginger snappish. Warms me right up! I don’t like to eat in bed because I get crumbs EVERYWHERE. But if I were staying in a bed and breakfast… that’s a whole other story. 🙂

  2. Personally, if im going to have a special breakfast, i like to be sitting in my pjs on the sofa watching telly with my bowl of oatmeal, makes me feel like a kid on a saturday morning again! 🙂

  3. I don’t think I ever have… But I do eat dinner in bed once or twice a month. 🙂 I turn on the TV and just relax. It’s a luxury that’s so necessary sometimes.

  4. Haha – this is great! My husband and I just did this on Saturday! It was the first day in FOREVER that I didn’t have anywhere to be so we had breakfast in bed and just hung out for a few hours. It was GLORIOUS. 🙂

  5. Sometimes I eat breakfast in bed… if I’m chilly and I want a blanker 😛 Oatmeal under the covers is definitely a wonderful experience!

I rarely eat savoury breakfasts like that. Don’t get me wrong, I love my eggs and veggies.. but it’s more of a lunch option for me 🙂 I just crave sugar in the morning I guess. Haha.

    • Haha…I do hope you have a Whole Foods nearby! It’s a 45 minute drive for me, but I’m convinced that it’s worth the trip at least a couple times a month. 😉

  6. That looks delicious! I would love to eat breakfast in bed but the activity of getting up to make the breakfast makes me not want to get back in. If I could persaude my mum to make me breakfast and bring it to me then I will definitely give it a try!

  7. Hmmm, so yummy. Haven’t eat breakfast in bed for a long time. Morning is usually spent with breakfast in front of the computer. Very nice photos. I wish I could eat it!

  8. Yep! Mostly every Saturday and Sunday morning, my husband offers me a delicious cup of cappaccino with cream and slices of whole wheat bread with jam, nutella or peanut butter. Later, we have fresh pressed fennel and carrot juice, different French cheeses, green salad and fruit salad.
Interestingly enough, I wrote an earlier similar post about enjoying the process of slowing down to enjoy breakfast…to really participate in the indulgence of Cream of Wheat with brown sugar, cinnamon and soy milk.
    Your photos are nice.

  9. I do not indulge in the luxury of breakfast in bed, because I would make a huge mess. BUT I do love making a beautiful brunch with my egg, veggie, cheesy, scramble and my favorite multi grain toast with a large, large mug of home brewed espresso…. mmmmm. It particularly enjoyable when eaten in my pyjamas and slippers on a cold winter morning while enjoying the morning radio show… absolute bliss.

  10. Looks delicious! I have been craving eggs a lot more than usual lately. Can’t seem to get enough of them. I, too, like to fix them with all the “add-ins.” We sometimes even have them for supper and I will fix them with potatoes and toast.

Haven’t ever had breakfast in bed. It would be kind of silly for me to get up and make it all, then climb back in bed to eat it–but that’s just me. Besides, I’m a messy toast eater. There would be too many crumbs everywhere!

  11. I never do breakfast in bead! It’s upstairs & I would have to carry it, yada, yada, yada, but it sounds good. If my husband was home, maybe I could talk him into making it for me, ’cause that sounds and looks soooo good. If you weren’t having it in bed, I was gonna’ ask if i could come over for breakfast, cause, yum I love eggs & veggies! Ha, Ha! Thanks for sharing!

  12. well, that confirms it: there definately are not ENOUGH luxurious mornings in my life, you set a good example for us all. I’m looking forward to december break when i can finally indulge in a morning like this. Until then, cold cereal & a quick cup of coffee for breakfast for me.

  13. I do sometimes have to eat in bed, owing to my health. I’ve come to view it as semi routine in a way that is sad for one who used to take pleasure in making the ultimate meal as you have done and then munch away with pleasure upon my personal “land of counterpane.” What this lacks is the delight!
However, you did inspire me to try it from a different perspective, making it special as my ability rises to allow for better cooking.
Your tray of wonderfully healthful goodies made for a boost to the old stick-to-it-iveness where this is concerned.
Up next for me: perhaps trying a different form of omelette, maybe investing in a proper omelette pan so that I’ll be satisfied with the result.
Thank you for this inspirational look at your breakfast in coverlet land.

  15. Breakfast in bed is underrated. It is my absolute favorite meal, and often one of the least enjoyed parts of the day. Everyone is up and out the door, grabbing lattes on the way to the office and quick, bagged pastries. I love waking to a giant pot of strong Peet’s coffee, oatmeal pancakes topped with walnuts, cinnamon, blueberries and agave and a side of egg whites. Eaten in bed with my puppy and my husband, it is the perfect start to the day.

  16. Great post. I love breakfast in bed. I work at home so can enjoy this luxury almost any morning. I am very spoiled when my sweetie makes and brings in an omelette or oatmeal or toast.

But the crumbs! Oh, the crumbs…

  17. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day (well, most days). The smell of coffee brewing or the taste of a strong cup of black tea with a little milk, yogurt with granola and fresh fruit, whole-grain toast with almond butter….and the daily newspaper positioned just above the plate for reading. Doesn’t get much better than that!

  18. I have just taught my daughter (who is ten) to make pancakes. Some mornings she surprises us with pancakes with fresh fruits, whipped cream and big glasses of orange juice. We all sit on the bed together and appreciate her cleverness!

  19. Honest, the only time I’ve ever eaten in bed…has probably been less than 10 times in my life. I’ve been around for last few decades. 🙂 It’s when I’ve been quite sick.

I actually don’t like dropping crumbs and all in bed. And I’m not a naturally neat person. I’m just lazy, don’t want to worry about my sheets, etc.

To me a luxurious breakfast is actually going to a lovely restaurant after an early morning bike ride and have a quality brunch –eggs benedict, smoked salmon, coffee, etc. So lovely in summer or early fall.

  21. Hot tea and Good Morning America for me first thing in the morning. Early morning’s great! Rest of the family is still sleeping and I have that time, as short as it may be, to myself – peaceful and quiet time to wake up!

  22. One of my favorite things is to cook a nice breakfast ( Buttermilk pancakes or waffles from scratch) and snuggle back into bed w/ food, boyfriend and puppy. The puppy takes care of the crumbs!

  23. These days, once I’m up and out of bed, there’s no going back. There was a time, however, when I did enjoy breakfast in bed. Once upon a time, there was nothing better than sitting in bed, curled up with a big bowl of cheerios, 3 towheaded kids, and 4 spoons.

  24. Breakfast is not m’y favorite meal! I know I am odd! I must say, though, if I have to prepare it, eating in bed is no treat. Now, if someone else were to prepare it…

  25. Congrats on being Freshly Pressed, Sarah! I have to agree with many others – because of the crumbs, I usually don’t eat breakfast in bed. (Though I do love eating breakfast on the living room couch with a warm blanket. For some reason the crumbs on the couch don’t bother me, probably because I don’t sleep there.)
