I used to hate rainy days. It meant being stuck inside with nothing but homework and reading and things like that.
Nowadays, I look forward to being stuck inside with nothing but homework and reading and things like that. 😉
Today, however, I enjoyed my rainy day. Outside.
It was pouring outside. Absolutely pouring! Umbrellas were pointless and even rain boots would have been a futile approach to staying dry. And so, when I arrived to the local 5k to cheer all the brave runners on, I gave up on my umbrella and decided to just embrace the rain. I could feel the runners’ energy. I clapped and hollered, urging on the tired runners. To keep on going. To not give up.
My favorite moment was when an older woman with a bright smile shouted, “this is my first!” This was her very first 5k! This was her marathon. I loved that I was able to share the moment with her as she thanked me for the motivation, running on to the finish line. It made me want to go out and run! 😀
If you’ve never volunteered at a road race, I highly recommend it!
“Breakfast of the Week”
A fruity bowl of oats sprinkled in coconut, walnuts and a dollop of raspberry jam.
Delicious.
A Fruity Bowl of Oats
Grapes are fabulous with oats. The heat brings out their natural sweetness. A healthy dose of coconut, walnuts and your favorite jam pull it all together. Sigh. What a beautiful morning.
- 1/2 cup oatmeal
- 2 Tbsp. crushed flax
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 sweet banana, sliced
- 3-4 strawberries, sliced
- handful of grapes, cut in half
- cinnamon and nutmeg
- toppings: walnuts, coconut, Trader Joe’s raspberry jam
- Combine oatmeal, flax, milk, 1/4 cup water, fruit and spices in a microwave safe bowl. Stir. Place in fridge overnight.
- The next morning, heat for about 5 minutes or until desired consistency. Top with your favorite mix ins and ENJOY! 😀
Question: Rainy days…Yay or Nay?
This is so great. Straight and to the point and you really get the layers of feeling. So well done!
Unless I have outdoor plans that get spoiled, I usually love rainy days. They’re so cozy! 🙂
I just think of rainy days as cleansing days. Wash things away and start anew. Wonderful looking oatmeal creation. Try dates, they are delicious too.
Mmm…dates would make a delicious addition! 😀
I love rainy days, as long as it’s a warm rain. When it rains a warm rain I sometimes go puddle jumping, it makes me feel like a kid again 🙂
Love puddle jumping! 😀
I’m proud of you for toughing it out in the rain! I never used to like the rain, but after reading a post you wrote a very long time ago about running in the rain, I have been converted. It still takes some willpower to get my booty out the door in dreary weather, but I’ve learned to embrace it 🙂
I love cheering for races!!! I’ll actually be doing that this coming Saturday!
I’ve never thought to put grapes in oatmeal………interesting….
I love the rain…as long as I don’t have to get something outdoors done. It’s a great time to force myself to catch up on indoor work, sneak in a little extra relaxing time…and the next day everything smells so fresh!
That oatmeal recipe looks so good, I just went and prepped it for tomorrow morning’s breakfast!!
As for the rain, I enjoy staying in, but it can be so fun and energizing running out in the rain! I remember the most fun track practices in high school were the ones where we got caught in the rain.
Love the oats, delicious! I’ve never volunteered at a race before, but sounds like a lot of fun, I’ll have to look into that! I’m a huge fan of rainy days 🙂
Hi Sarah, I ran in a 5k in the rain on Sunday in Florence. Was that you cheering me on? 🙂 So fantastic that you run with your Dad! That’s the best kind of running partner to have, non-competitive and only wants you to succeed. I recently started to run with a friend and it’s worked out so well, she motivates me to run faster and longer. Love your photos and your food.
That was me! 😀
wow…nice pictures!!! i love the photographsss on ur blog!
I love the color of your little blue spoon! I have it in orange. I’ve seen some people have it in green. I am watching Crate and Barrel for more colors!!
